The Power of Four... By: Robert Tostado MD Acne afflicts a significant percentage of the adult population. It is one of the most challenging conditions that dermatologists battle with these days. The existence of systemic drugs (often with severe side effects), and other medications is not enough though as they are often focused on treating only the symptoms. Acne, which is a disease of the sebaceous glands of the skin and is caused by clogged pores due to the increased sebum production and the presence of bacteria, must be fought with something more intense. Now, acne can be the least of our problems ONLY because of ARAMIS, a procedure which uses a combination of a patented wavelength, pulse modulation and contact cooling – together, these three aim to produce a sub-coagulative thermal injury that allows for a temporary alteration in the size and function of the overactive sebaceous gland. This thermal effect kills bacteria and reduces sebum production. The patented wavelength of Aramis is gracefully absorbed by water and directly targets the sebaceous glands. The laser, shot in pulses, will have effects that appear at the level of the sebaceous glands located deeper in the dermis. The number of pulses depends on the needed depth of penetration. Aramis also has a contact cooling system whose hand piece numbs the treatment area and provides for a painless and gentle cooling without fearing for erythema or edema. Aramis also induces collagen production to simultaneously reduce the risks of developing acne scars. It can be performed quite quickly and demands no pre-treatment regimen and has not been associated with any side-effects. Aramis does not only treat the symptoms of acne, but more significantly, it also treats the source. Another latest technological advancement in acne treatment is OMNILUX. It uses a safe light, not ultraviolet light or radiation, to treat acne, remove precancerous skin lesions, and repair sun-damaged skin. OMNILUX BLUE clears up acne. It is a painless, non-¬invasive acne treatment in all age groups that has been cleared by the FDA. Omnilux Blue employs innovative Photo Dynamic Therapy (PDT) technology that uses light to adequately target acne-causing bacteria without thermally affecting the surrounding tissues. It delivers a unique blue light that generates a highly toxic environment for the superficial P acne bacteria, which breeds bacterial death and frees the skin from acne. Omnilux Blue is a very fast session that can last as quickly as 20 minutes. It is a safe and speedy treatment which yields impressive results. Patients never have to worry about getting UV, IR or inappropriate visible radiation because they won’t with Omnilux Blue. As it is natural, glands will go back to their natural state without being thermally altered. OMNILUX RED eliminates precancerous growths. Pre-cancerous skin lesions called actinic keratoses (AKs) are a result of years of sun exposure. Omnilux Red can eliminate AKs and even out tone and texture to revitalize the skin. Finally, if acne is not your problem but you wish for a scar-free, wrinkle-free and smooth skin, you may want to try another beauty breakthrough called Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing a. k. a. FRAXEL™. Fraxel™ laser technology builds up a youthful look; rubs off pigmented areas, acne scars, surgical scars, melasma, and sun spots; and knocks off fine wrinkles. This procedure only requires the topical application of an anesthetic cream. What’s astonishing about it is not only the result but also the rapid recovery, with almost no risk of complications and no downtime. |
