Fraxel Laser... Resurface your way to uncovering smooth, fresh, even-toned, luminous skin. Fraxel® is the most advanced laser resurfacing procedure available to improve acne scars, uneven pigmentation, and fine to moderate lines and wrinkles. Downtime is minimal, and improvements are seen over a period of two to three months. Acne Scars There are traditional approaches to eliminate acne scars such as topical agents, surgery, abrasion therapies, and conventional lasers but so far, have achieved only moderate results. In some cases, unacceptable amounts of healthy tissue along with the scar are even destroyed. Techniques found to be more effective, however, require a great deal of recovery time. Studies show that the FDA-approved Fraxel® Laser Treatment for acne scars could be far more effective than traditional therapies at both removing damaged tissue and inducing the formation of new collagen. Pigmentation / Melasma The Fraxel laser received FDA clearance to treat melasma, a stubborn skin condition estimated to affect 6 million women worldwide. Until now, melasma has been resistant to treatment, with conventional laser and pulsed-light procedures considered unsatisfactory due to lackluster results, significant downtime or the risk of adverse complications. This treatment allows penetration deep enough to eliminate the melanocytes that cause melasma. It does not only resolve the excessive and undesirable pigmentation at the dermal junction, but also prevent the surrounding melanocytes to become worse, preventing inflammatory post-treatment responses. Fine Lines / Wrinkles the use of the fraxel laser for fine lines and wrinkles promotes collagen stimulation producing a thicker dermis this results in smoother skin, with marked improvement of fine lines and wrinkles. Frequently Asked Questions Q: What is the Fraxel Laser Treatment? A: It is an innovative new laser system that can rejuvenate or resurface sun-damaged skin without resulting in any visible wound or a prolonged, uncomfortable healing period. Q: How does Fraxel work? A: The Fraxel Laser creates a pattern of evenly spaced microscopic laser "spots" surrounded by normal undamaged skin. Because the skin surrounding the spots is not injured, healing takes place very quickly, and without creating a visible wound. Repeated treatments create additional spots, until the entire skin surface is treated. Q: Where on the face or body can the Fraxel Laser be used? A: It can be used anywhere on the body where the skin would benefit from resurfacing. The neck and decollete, which were not treatable with previously available methods, are of particular interest. Q: Is Fraxel Laser treatment safe? A: To date, there have been no reports of scarring or infection from treatment. At higher energy, temporary skin discoloration can occur, especially in darker-skinned patients. Q: Is the Fraxel SR laser treatment painful? A: An anaesthetic cream may be applied at least 1 hour prior to the treatment. For higher power settings, local anaesthetic or oral pain medicine may be used. Q: How long does Fraxel Laser treatment take? A: Each treatment session may take anywhere from 30 minutes to 1 hour depending upon the size of the area treated. Q: How many treatments will I need? A: Typically 3 to 5 treatments performed every 2 to 4 weeks apart are recommended depending on the severity of the problem, although most patients will notice some improvement even after a single treatment. You may be advised to have “maintenance” treatments. Q: How soon can I return to my normal activities? A: There may be some redness and swelling in the treated areas and a mild burning or itching sensation, which usually disappears in a few hours. Redness may persist for a few days, and the skin may take on a “bronzed” appearance. If anesthetic injections are used, there may be some bruising in the injected areas. Crusting or blistering in some areas are very rare though. If you have been given oral medication for pain or sedation, you should not to drive until the following morning; otherwise, you may resume your normal activities immediately. No special aftercare is needed and you may resume your normal skin care regimen immediately. Q: When will I see the results? A: Although most patients will see some improvement within a few days, the main concern is the collagen remodeling in the deep layers of the skin over the several months after treatment that causes the smoothing and tightening. You can expect a gradual improvement for up to a year following a series of treatments. Q: Is Fraxel Laser Treatment permanent? A: The changes in the epidermis and dermal collagen induced by Fraxel Laser are permanent. Remmeber thought that time, sun exposure, and gravity will continue to take its toll. The Fraxel SR laser "turns back the clock", but doesn't keep the clock from ticking Post Treatment Instructions • You may apply ice packs to the treated areas to help keep the area cool and alleviate any discomfort, as well as keep down any swelling. Swelling will be most evident around the eyes and is usually more prominent in the morning. .• You may experience some flaking on day 3-7. •Spray on electrolyzed water or other thermal spring water sprays often for the first 3 days. • Take analgesics such Tylenol or Advil if necessary. • You may begin taking a shower the day of the treatment. • A good moisturizer needs to be used, as the treated area will be dry and tight at first. • Avoid getting any sun on the treated area for two weeks. Use a sunscreen and wear a brimmed hat. The treated area will be very susceptible to sun exposure and damage can occur. At two weeks you may go out with a sunblock SPF 30 or greater. This must be used for approximately four months following your laser treatment. • Once the flaking subsides the treated area may be red. This will gradually fade over a period of 4-8 weeks. A green based cover-up make-up can be purchased from most cosmetic lines that can be worn under your own make-up to help cancel the redness from the treatment |
