What is Botox?
Botox is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. It is a non-surgical, physician-administered treatment that can temporarily reduce moderate to severe frown lines between the brows and around the eyes. It has been used to treat a million people in the United States since it was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2002 for the temporary treatment of moderate to severe frown lines. Q: How is Botox administered? How does it work?
A: During treatment, very low doses of Botox are directly injected into the muscles between your brows. It blocks the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles, which in turn, reduces the muscles activities that cause those unpleasant lines to form. This treatment usually takes about 10 minutes, and no recovery time is needed. In a matter of few days, very good results can be noticed and this improvement in your skin can last up to 4 months. Results may vary.
Q: Who/What can be treated with Botox?
A: Anyone who wishes to have a Botox treatment should take note of the following:
-There must no presence of infection at the proposed injection site.
-Individuals with known hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the formulation are not supposed to undergo the treatment.
-Patients with neurological disorders such as ALS, Myasthenia Gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome may be at increased risk of serious side effects.
