Botox... Say goodbye to frown-lines, forehead wrinkles, and crows feet – that’s just the start, with Botox® Cosmetic. Approved by the FDA to treat lines caused by facial expressions, Botox Cosmetic is safe treatment requiring no downtime. What is Botox? Botox is a purified protein produced by the Clostridium botulinum bacterium. It is a non-surgical, physician-administered treatment that can temporarily reduce moderate to severe frown lines between the brows and around the eyes. It has been used to treat a million people in the United States since it was approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in 2002 for the temporary treatment of moderate to severe frown lines. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery ranked Botox as the most popular of all physician-administered cosmetic procedures (surgical and non-surgical combined) in 2002 and 2003. The Biologica Method Biologica utilizes a unique method by using highly concentrated Botox for longer lasting results to reverse lines and wrinkles over time. The high concentration we use at Biologica significantly reduces the risks of common side effects associated with Botox as the use of less diluent decreases the chance of Botox diffusion to other areas. Frequently Asked Questions Q: How is Botox administered? How does it work? A: During treatment, very low doses of Botox are directly injected into the muscles between your brows. It blocks the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscles, which in turn, reduces the muscles activities that cause those unpleasant lines to form. This treatment usually takes about 10 minutes, and no recovery time is needed. In a matter of few days, very good results can be noticed and this improvement in your skin can last up to 4 months. Results may vary. Q: Who/What can be treated with Botox? A: Anyone who wishes to have a Botox treatment should take note of the following: -There must no presence of infection at the proposed injection site. -Individuals with known hypersensitivity to any ingredient in the formulation are not supposed to undergo the treatment. -Patients with neurological disorders such as ALS, Myasthenia Gravis or Lambert-Eaton syndrome may be at increased risk of serious side effects. Frown lines between the eyebrows, wrinkle lines across the forehead as well as crow’s feet that form during smiling or animation can be treated with Botox. Lower facial areas can also be treated but in a much more conservative fashion to avoid interfering with normal function. Hyperhidrosis, or excessive sweating can also be effectively treated using Botox. Q: Does Botox cause any pain? A: Prior to injecting Botox, your physician may choose to numb the area with a cold pack or anesthetic cream. Discomfort is usually what you will feel, but it is very minimal and shortlived. Q: What are the side effects of Botox? A: The most common side effects are headache, respiratory infection, flu syndrome, temporary eyelid droop, and nausea. Adverse reactions that occur less frequently are erythema at the injection site, muscle weakness and pain in the face. These effects are considered to be associated with the injection and normally occur within the first week. Q: Do I need follow-up Botox treatments? A: Yes. You need to continue the treatment because if you don’t, the moderate to severe frown lines between your brows will gradually look like they used to. |
